Deep Funding for Hyperon

Selection Process Overview

The spirit of Deep Funding has always been about one thing: unlocking human creativity and channeling it into the pursuit of beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). This round was no exception. Once again, we witnessed a flood of bold ideas from around the globe; ideas that stretched the boundaries of what artificial intelligence can be, and what it can mean for the future of humanity.

We saw proposals that ventured into uncharted computing paradigms, others that dug deep into the mathematics of symbolic reasoning, and still more that dared to ask what intelligence might look like if we modeled it not on human minds alone, but on the alien, the unfamiliar, and the deeply different.

The passion and vision embedded in these proposals were unmistakable. Every submission was a declaration of belief that the future of AI should be open, decentralized, and accessible to all. With each round of Deep Funding, we see not only new technologies take root, but also a growing global movement committed to shaping AI for the benefit of everyone.

After rigorous expert review and careful deliberation, we are proud to introduce the projects that stood out for their originality, technical depth, and alignment with our mission.

RFP | Novel Hardware Architectures

Jonathan Edwards | Temporal Computing | $80,000
Temporal Computing offers an entirely new paradigm by representing data as passages of time rather than binary states. Edwards’ project integrates this approach with specialized hardware to enhance Hyperon’s performance and efficiency, targeting major gains in energy savings, parallelism, and computational speed for AGI reasoning.

RFP | Neural-Symbolic DNN Architectures

Justin Diamond | Hetzerk: a logical language of AI and Physics | $40,000
Diamond’s project explores Hetzerk, a hybrid logical framework that bridges symbolic and subsymbolic approaches, aiming to unify physics-informed reasoning with AI architectures. This work pushes forward the development of neurosymbolic systems critical to robust AGI.

RFP | Explore Theoretical Quantum Computing Models

Andrevilela | Quantum Computing Intelligence and Applications | $48,480
The FromScience.io team investigates how different quantum architectures—including trapped-ion, superconducting, photonic, and topological computing—can support AGI applications. The project will evaluate hybrid models and practical implications for probabilistic reasoning, inference, and large-scale knowledge representation in Hyperon.

RFP | Experiment with Concept Blending in MeTTa

Mika Letonsaari | Pattern Discovery in Symbolic Visual Structures | $30,000
Letonsaari’s project applies concept blending in MeTTa to uncover abstract symbolic patterns, with experiments inspired by the ARC-AGI challenge. By representing visual structures as hypergraphs, the project seeks to generate higher-level concepts that can generalize across domains and accelerate creative AGI learning.

RFP | Develop a Framework for AGI Motivation Systems

Olivier Georgeon | Interactional Motivation | $20,000
Georgeon proposes a framework where agents value their interactions themselves, rather than external outcomes. This “Interactional Motivation” model draws from genetic epistemology and enactive theory, aiming to support autonomous goal construction beyond conventional reinforcement learning.

Gabriel Axel Montes | XenoCog: Pioneering Alien & Octopus-inspired AGI | $25,000
Montes, in collaboration with cephalopod-cognition expert Sidney Carls-Diamante, brings an unprecedented perspective to AGI motivation. XenoCog develops an open-source motivational framework inspired by alien and octopus intelligence, designed to enrich AGI systems with truly non-human forms of cognitive development.

RFP | Knowledge Graph Tooling

Luke Mahoney (MLabs) | Autograph | $60,000
Autograph addresses the limitations of LLM-based knowledge graph extraction by developing AGI-oriented KG tooling. The focus is on context identification for noisy graphs, improving entity resolution, predicate management, and confidence modeling—foundational elements for scalable reasoning.

Ivan Reznikov | Natural Language Explainability for Temporal KGs | $87,500
Reznikov’s project bridges machine reasoning and human understanding by making temporal knowledge graphs interpretable through natural language. With compatibility for Hyperon’s MeTTa and MORK, it offers transparent, traceable explanations of complex temporal logic.

Ivan Reznikov | Dynamic KG Algorithms | $87,500
In a complementary effort, Reznikov also leads development of algorithms for evolving knowledge graphs. This includes tools for incremental updates, intelligent merging, and conflict resolution—ensuring AGI systems remain robust as their knowledge bases evolve.

Robert Haas | Augmenting BMKGs with Cheminformatics | $70,000
Haas expands biomedical knowledge graphs with cheminformatics and computer-aided drug design techniques. This enables rich annotation of compounds and properties, opening the door to advanced queries, clustering, and reasoning in biomedical AGI applications.

Justin Diamond | Hetzerk: AGI Reasoning and Decentralized Science | $50,000
Diamond’s second funded proposal builds Hetzerk into a toolkit for converting scientific data into high-quality knowledge graphs. By integrating decentralized molecular and physics datasets with Hyperon, it aims to supercharge analogical reasoning and hypothesis generation across the AGI and DeSci ecosystem.

Looking Forward

With every round of Deep Funding, we are reminded that the path to AGI is not a single road paved by one team, but a constellation of pathways. Many voices, many experiments, all contributing to a shared vision.

What excites us most about this round is not only the quality of the winning projects, but the diversity of their visions. Some are reaching forward to entirely new computational frontiers while others are looking inward, rethinking how motivation and reasoning might emerge in digital minds. Still others are building the scaffolding of practical tools such as knowledge graphs, explainability systems, and data pipelines that AGI will rely on as its cognitive substrate.

Taken together, they tell a story of a community that refuses to be limited by convention. A community that understands AGI is not a single breakthrough waiting to happen, but a vast and collaborative process of discovery, experimentation, and iteration.

Deep Funding exists to amplify that spirit. Each round brings us one step closer to the world we are working toward: a world where intelligence is not locked behind corporate walls or national borders, but open, transparent, and aligned with the flourishing of life on Earth.

To every researcher, developer, and dreamer who took part in this process, we owe a big thank you. Your ideas matter. Your work is helping to shape one of the most consequential undertakings in human history. And together, we are building not only Artificial General Intelligence, but a future where intelligence itself becomes a shared human achievement.
