An AI-driven blockchain solution creating an immutable, verifiable supply chain to certify precious minerals as conflict-free and fair trade. Inspired by successful Fair Trade models, it surpasses current systems (Kimberley Process, CFSP) through transparency, broader mineral coverage, independent AI verification, and consumer-driven economic incentives promoting peace.
This proposal aligns closely with BGI’s mission to use beneficial AI for global well-being by addressing violent and exploitative mineral extraction practices. It leverages decentralized technology to build community-driven oversight, fostering transparency and trust in global supply chains. AI and blockchain together form an indelible ledger, motivating local communities, governments, and businesses to prioritize peaceful and equitable resource extraction. This incentivizes reducing violence, enhances community livelihoods, and strengthens global cooperation around peace and economic stability.
Conflict regions, notably DR Congo, face persistent violence driven by valuable mineral extraction. Existing certifications like Kimberley Process (diamonds only) and CFSP (limited minerals) suffer from transparency issues, inadequate real-time verification, and limited incentive structures, failing to comprehensively address the root causes of conflict and exploitation. Awareness of these conflicts and the impact of technology use is low among the ultimate end-users of this mineral wealth.
Implement a blockchain-based certification system enhanced by AI-driven verification processes and oracles, creating a high-trust labeling of minerals, components and devics which are conflict-free and ethically sourced. Superior to existing programs, it provides comprehensive transparency, immutable documentation, broader mineral coverage, consumer-friendly labels, and direct economic and awareness incentives, thus fostering accountable local governance and sustained community prosperity.
