Short summary

The purpose of this RFP is to identify, assess, and experiment with novel computing paradigms that could enhance AGI system performance and efficiency. By focusing on alternative architectures, this research aims to overcome computational bottlenecks in recursive reasoning, probabilistic inference, attention allocation, and large-scale knowledge representation. Bids are expected to range from $40,000 - $80,000.

Main purpose

To explore and recommend hardware solutions that offer significant advantages for Hyperon’s components, such as PLN, MOSES, ECAN, etc with massive workloads. The goal is to identify hardware configurations that improve performance, scalability, and resource allocation, supporting the realization of scalable AGI systems.

Long description

Context and Background

The SingularityNET Foundation is advancing AGI research and development. While traditional computing architectures such as GPUs, TPUs, and neuromorphic chips have shown promise in AI acceleration, they may not be optimal for AGI’s computational demands. This RFP will fund research that:

Explores alternative computing paradigms, such as temporal computing, race logic, asynchronous architectures, analog computing, and novel memory-based processing techniques.
Benchmarks non-traditional architectures against conventional AI accelerators in AGI-specific tasks such as recursive query resolution, self-modifying algorithms, and real-time inference.
Develops proof-of-concept models and software-hardware co-design experiments to test feasibility.
Evaluates scalability, energy efficiency, and long-term viability of novel hardware solutions for AGI applications.
Explicitly excludes quantum computing, which is addressed in other initiatives.

Expected Outcomes

A comparative evaluation of novel computing paradigms based on efficiency, scalability, and suitability for AGI workloads.
Mathematical and experimental modeling of alternative hardware architectures in AGI-specific tasks.
A feasibility assessment of non-traditional computation models with an emphasis on performance gains over classical architectures.
A prototype or proof-of-concept demonstration showing the potential of a selected alternative computing paradigm.

Functional Requirements

Literature review: A thorough assessment of existing research in alternative computing paradigms for AGI.

Experimental validation: Development of proof-of-concept tests, software-hardware co-design experiments, or simulations.
Scalability and power efficiency analysis: Evaluating the long-term potential of these architectures in large-scale AGI applications.

Credibility and rigor: Research must be based on peer-reviewed sources, experimental data, and expert consultations.
Comparative analysis: A clear differentiation between alternative and traditional architectures in AGI contexts.
Implementation feasibility: Emphasis on practical integration rather than just theoretical exploration.
Cost-benefit evaluation: An assessment of the economic feasibility and sustainability of proposed hardware solutions.

We highly recommend submitting proposals with project milestones along the lines of the following:
- Milestone 1: Identification of hardware paradigms and research plan Deliverables: Submission of a detailed research plan outlining the alternative hardware paradigms to be explored (e.g., temporal computing, race logic, analog, in-memory processing). Includes an initial assessment of their potential relevance to AGI workloads and a methodology for benchmarking and experimentation. 25% of grant

- Milestone 2: Literature review and benchmarking criteria Deliverables: Completion of a focused literature review on selected paradigms, with specific attention to recursive reasoning, inference, and attention mechanisms in AGI. Development of benchmarking criteria to compare performance, scalability, and energy efficiency against traditional architectures. 25% of grant

- Milestone 3: Initial experiments and feasibility testing Deliverables: Presentation of early experimental results using simulation or hardware-software co-design. Includes analysis of performance on AGI-relevant tasks and updated documentation based on findings. 25% of grant

- Milestone 4: Final evaluation and prototype demonstration Deliverables: Submission of a final report comparing the tested architectures, with analysis of feasibility, cost, and integration potential. Delivery of a prototype or proof-of-concept showing one promising paradigm applied to an AGI use case. 25% of grant
