Description

Develop a framework that enables communities to audit and assess ethical, social and environmental risks of the use of AI with their data. Empower community members with open-source tools and participatory methods to ensure the use of AI is transparent, fair, and aligned with community values.

Detailed Idea

Alignment with DF goals (BGI, Platform growth, community)

Problem description

AI is often applied using centralized tools with "black box” training that is overly technical and inaccessible to community end users. Communities often lack the skills and tools to identify bias, to give informed consent or to evaluate safety risks in the AI manipulation of their data. This can lead to harm and a loss of trust in AI systems.

Proposed Solutions

Provide an open-source framework that audits and assesses ethical checklists, scores and weights safety risks and measures participation. Empower communities with the tools to analyze datasets for bias, transparency, and social impact. To ensure trust and safety is incorporated into local AI workflows.
