Overview

Cybernetic Systems for Sustainable Villages

Astralship, VillageOS, and Tyddyn Teg farm seek funding for a three-week multidisciplinary voyage to prototype human-centric cybernetic systems for sustainable eco-villages. We aim to integrate AI, conversational agents, sensor systems, and data visualization in regenerative farming. Tyddyn Teg focuses on regenerative community farming, so our solutions must support their work without being tech for tech's sake. The primary outcome that could prevent us from submitting a successful proposal in the next round would be if our multidisciplinary team is unable to identify any feasible solutions that can be developed with the available resources. This ideation phase is critical for exploring and validating potential AI services for sustainable human communities. If, during this phase, we determine that the proposed solutions are not technically viable, lack sufficient impact, or cannot be effectively developed within the constraints of our resources, it would hinder our ability to move forward.

Therefore, the success of this ideation phase relies on our ability to collaboratively design and validate practical, impactful solutions that can be realistically developed in the subsequent round.

Particular technical challenges will focus on how conversational LLMs interact with vector, graph, and relational database structures in order to represent the complexity of the project in a consistent way. The design must allow humans to feel co-creative in stewarding this process.

Our specific solution to this problem

Our solution is to develop a conversational agent system for managing complex projects in sustainable communities. This system will feature an intuitive, user-friendly interface for seamless adoption by diverse users.

Multidisciplinary teams with expertise in AI, data science, UX design, project management, and regenerative agriculture provide a strong foundation for innovation. Collaboration and integration of technologies such as conversational AI, sensors, and data visualization have the potential to increase productivity. The focus on human-centered design and regenerative principles demonstrates a deep understanding of user needs. Support from Astralship, with its inspiring facilities, is also a huge asset. Real-world prototyping approaches, such as at Tyddyn Teg, enable immediate validation, supporting global sustainability goals and strengthening scalability potential.

    However, limited resources can be an obstacle if not managed well. The technical challenges associated with integrating conversational AI with vector, graph, and relational databases require complex and innovative solutions. Reliance on external collaboration can also be a challenge in terms of coordination. To overcome this, there needs to be an efficient resource management strategy and mitigation of technical challenges by involving experts from the start.     A potential project with a strangely low budget

    The proposal aims to develop a conversational agent system to manage complex projects in sustainable communities. The conversational agent system aims to increase productivity, improve decision-making, and foster a collaborative environment between teams in sustainable communities. I was quite surprised that the conversational agent system would leverage AI to analyze large amounts of data. Even though the project used an external AI service, the $5,000 budget was still incredibly small. However, the proponent should specifically mention which state-of-the-art language model will be used. Astraliam is an individual with nearly 13 years of experience working in the IT field, so I believe that VillageOS Voyage can be easily delivered.

    To my reading and assessment this proposal both in Ideation and leading towards the New Project proposal in F5 has a max Desirability index.

    1. In the ideation phase we will explore the tech landscape for building suitable agentic workflows. Broadly there is a voice<->text component, for prototyping ideas we'll probably use a popular cloud service. Beyond that we'll be exploring different open source LLMs and ELMs (efficient language models aka smaller LLMs) for connecting different agents with langchain. A key question to explore on the ideation voyage will be optimising efficient retrieval of vectorised data for generation.

    2. This question is interesting and a key one to explore on the voyage. As a simple tangible example consider someone with an ADHD neurotype walking around the farm operating in an observer mode. Their input stream (voice to text data) might jump around with a broad range of observations. E.g: Objects that need relocating, repairing, observation on specific crops, decisions needed from the group relating to physical situations, these might then trigger suggestions for new ideas that might need feedback from other members to take forward. Such a stream maybe extremely hard for other neurotype to process directly however an LLM agent will find it straight forward to process and store in an intelligent way. These can then be presented back to others in a logical methodical way that suits them. By working closely with the actual farmers we will explore communications patterns that are likely to be effective to the diversity of users at the farm.

    This is a request for $5k USD to support a 3 week long voyage (workshop) at Astralship under the ideation track. We are already exporing Agentic systems at Astralship using open-source LLMs. The funding will assist with travel and other expenses so we can bring together a crew to really deep-dive with Tyddyn Teg farm and design and prototype something that will work in the field. We are already quite convinced on the feasibility of agentic systems( multiple LLM prompts feeding into a vector DB + RAG). The feasibility of design workshops (voyages) at Astralship is already tested. This voyage is related and currently in progress: https://lu.ma/strange-fish-academy.

    what would you like to see in terms of evidence of feasibility? AI developers creating profiles and saying they will come if there's funding? I can asked for that but am unsure what you would like to see.
