Overview

TechRise North is an initiative to establish an AI and blockchain hub in Northern Nigeria, a region with low digital literacy. By creating educational content in English and Hausa (Hausa is a language spoken by 50+ million people), we will break language barriers and make AI and blockchain knowledge accessible. The hub will train Web2 developers, students, and underserved groups, with 80% of participants being women. Through workshops, hackathons, and mentorship, participants will gain hands-on skills, contribute to SingularityNET, and submit Deep Funding proposals. This 6-month project aims to create a self-sustaining hub, ensuring long-term AI adoption and female inclusion in blockchain.

Milestone 1 - Community Building & Initial Engagement

Description

This first milestone focuses on the establishment and promotion of TechRise North as the central hub for AI and blockchain development in Northern Nigeria. The goal is to introduce the concept of AI and blockchain technology to a wider audience, particularly among Web2 developers, university students, and secondary school learners. We will build a strong online and offline presence by setting up social media platforms, creating a website, and partnering with educational institutions and organizations that focus on local tech education. Special attention will be given to involving women, with a target of at least 80% female participation, to ensure gender inclusivity from the start. A crucial part of this milestone is establishing a network of local universities, schools, and startups specializing in teaching AI in Hausa, making the tech accessible to the target population.

Deliverables

1: A fully functional TechRise North website, serving as a hub for resources, community updates, and educational materials. 2: Creation of active social media profiles on platforms such as Discord, X, Telegram, and LinkedIn to engage a wide audience. 3: Establishment of at least three strategic partnerships with local universities and secondary schools for collaborative programs. 4: Onboarding of at least 200 members, with a focus on Web2 developers and women, joining the community and engaging in initial discussions and learning materials. 5: Development of a comprehensive outreach program targeting local communities, universities, and tech enthusiasts in the region.

Budget

$4,000 USD

1: A fully operational online presence with regular content updates and active engagement from at least 200 members. 2: Strong engagement and feedback from at least 80% of participants, including regular interactions on social media platforms. 3: Established partnerships with local educational institutions and AI startups focused on Hausa language-based education. 4: A clear and active community with discussions on the basics of AI and blockchain, signaling that members are starting to grasp the relevance and importance of these technologies.

Milestone 2 - Structured AI & Blockchain Education in Hausa

Description

This milestone centers around the creation and rollout of comprehensive AI and blockchain education programs in Hausa, which will be the primary language for delivery. Given the region's low digital literacy and lack of formal education in emerging technologies, the aim is to break the language barrier and ensure that knowledge is accessible. The training will be tailored to Web2 developers who are either unaware of AI or lack the resources to dive into it, as well as students who may not have had the chance to learn these subjects. We will collaborate with local tech startups that teach AI in Hausa to create high-quality learning content. A combination of virtual and offline methods will be used to address the region's infrastructural challenges, such as electricity and internet access.

Deliverables

1: Development of online and offline educational content in Hausa, including beginner to intermediate courses on AI, blockchain, and related technologies. 2: Delivery of at least four virtual workshops and two in-person workshops, ensuring they cater to the needs of participants with limited access to technology. 3: At least 300 participants, including students, developers, and women, enrolled in the training programs. 4: Collaboration with AI-focused startups teaching in Hausa, leveraging their expertise and resources for course delivery and content creation. 5: A fully operational educational platform where materials are accessible in both video and text formats, designed for easy navigation and learning in local settings.

Budget

$3,000 USD

Success Criterion

1: A minimum of 300 participants, with significant female representation (at least 80%), actively engaging with the course materials. 2: At least 80% of participants demonstrating improved understanding and practical skills in AI and blockchain, as evidenced by participation in hands-on activities and discussions. 3: Successful delivery of all workshops, both online and offline, with positive feedback and engagement from the participants. 4: The establishment of a learning community where participants are continuing discussions and seeking guidance on AI and blockchain beyond the sessions.

Milestone 3 - Hands-on AI/Blockchain Workshops & Hackathons

Description

In this milestone, we will take the theoretical knowledge gained in Milestone 2 and apply it through hands-on learning experiences. We will organize hackathons, innovation challenges, and workshops where participants will collaborate to build AI-powered and blockchain-based solutions. These events will simulate real-world conditions and allow participants to work together, problem-solve, and experience the full cycle of building tech solutions. Workshops will focus on applying AI and blockchain concepts to address local challenges, especially for underserved communities, while hackathons will encourage creative thinking and technical expertise. The goal is to foster collaboration, innovation, and hands-on skill development that will further deepen the participants' understanding of the technologies.

Deliverables

1: Two large-scale hackathons involving at least 10 teams, each developing an AI or blockchain-based solution. 2: At least three hands-on workshops focusing on specific AI and blockchain skills, such as programming languages, smart contracts, or data science. 3: Creation of a local tech network that promotes collaborative development and knowledge sharing. 4: A series of mentorship programs during the hackathons to guide participants, especially women and underrepresented groups. 5: Showcase events where participants can present their solutions, network with local tech leaders, and receive feedback from experts in the field.
