Project Owner- UK academia outreach - Catalyst outreach - Facilitate hub meetings NB any work not assigned to a specific team member will be shared collaboratively between us.
A 6-month initiative to conduct outreach to, and support, women who might be interested in proposing in Deep Funding, with the aim of seeing more women-led proposals and more women voters. Women are currently somewhat underrepresented in Deep Funding proposals; they also face different barriers to participation than those faced by men. We want to create a hub that will do some targeted outreach to women in other Web3 ecosystems where we have connections, and women in relevant university courses in the UK and in Nigeria (the countries where our project team members are based); and offer a regular space for women to make links, support/mentor each other, and collaborate on proposals.
We are seeking individuals to lead and manage Deep Funding Community Hub initiatives. These initiatives aim to establish and foster decentralized Deep Funding Communities centered around specific topics or areas of interest where a dedicated community would be valuable.
Examples of potential hubs include:
The primary objective of these Community Hubs is to expand Deep Funding in a decentralized way. This involves engaging new members, providing information, sharing best practices for submitting funding proposals and building strong, collaborative communities. Regular online meetings will also be an integral part of these initiatives to connect, grow, and support the community.
In order to protect this proposal from being copied, all details are hidden until the end of the submission period. Please come back later to see all details.
Each team member spends the first month of the proposal conducting outreach to women in Web3 communities where have connections (e.g. Cardano Polkadot Web3 Ladies) and in-person communities we have links with for example university hubs relevant to AI such as https://hub.salford.ac.uk/sbs-disruptive-technologies . We then collate a list of contacts and share it with other women in the network; and hold an inaugural meeting to enable women to meet each other and to introduce DeepFunding explain what the opportunities are and generate some excitement around it.
- A Googleform for women to express interest leading to a GoogleSheet contact list - A presentation on DF and some written resources that we can share with those we contact - A Discord server and/or TG group for the hub to keep in contact (TBD based on the preferences of those we contact) - A inaugural meeting
$1,800 USD
- We will have successfully contacted 200 women and got confirmed interest from at least 30 - At least 20 attendees at an inaugural meeting
Prepare and run 6 Hub meetings on Zoom over a 3 month period (once a fortnight) for women who have expressed interest. These will - discuss proposing in DF and give “how-to” guidance tips and ideas; - keep women aware of calls and deadlines; - give info on how to join DF circles and how to vote in DF rounds; - have a speaker each session who gives a short presentation on an aspect of AI development particularly focused on what kinds of proposals it could lead to; - offer breakout rooms in each meeting for women to share their proposal ideas and invite collaboration; - include an informal open space where women can come and talk about any barriers they’re facing. We will also set up peer support/mentorship structures to develop proposals (putting women in contact with each other; setting up sessions for proposals on similar topics; looking at our contacts list and suggesting connections to women interested in similar ideas; creating channels in our Discord server for different proposal topics and stimulating discussion there; holding 1-2-1 or small-group sessions with women who are looking for specific advice;etc) and maintain our outreach work publicising meetings and encouraging more women to attend. Each meeting we will ask each attendee to invite one friend or colleague to the next meeting so that membership builds organically. We'll offer a small financial incentive to women who bring a friend.
- 6 Hub meetings - Women-led proposals are in development and proposal teams/interest groups are meeting informally to develop their proposals.
$6,000 USD
- Meeting attendance grows over the 3 months - at least 10 proposals are in development - including at least 2 teams that would not have met without this initiative - at least 10 informal mentorship/peer support meetings or 1-2-1s have taken place
- HerAI Hub meetings continue fortnightly for 2 more months - The project team offers a final proofread of all proposals being submitted by Hub members and support to submit them. - Any interested Hub members are onboarded as voters - Any interested Hub members are onboarded to DF circles - A small incentive is paid to Hub members who submit a proposal in an appropriate DF round or RFP.
DF proposals are submitted (DFR6 or relevant open rounds or RFPs) or are ready to be submitted when a relevant round opens.
$2,000 USD
At least 10 proposals; at least 50 new voters; at least 3 women onboarded to DF Circles. An evaluation process (forms, for privacy, plus a retrospective meeting) indicates that a majority of Hub members have found the hub useful, and have made connections with each other and been able to network and get peer support.
The project team (in collaboration with input from the WanjTech team if they too were funded) writes a final report analysing achievements links made issues identified; and (with Hub members and WanjiTech team) drafts a proposal to be submitted if and when funding becomes available for continuation or development to a universal Women's Hub. The aim will be to hand over to newer women with mentorship and support from this Project team where needed.
- Final report - Continuation proposal
$1,000 USD
At least 3 Hub members are interested in progressing some further engagement and support work developing out of this proposal.
