Overview

Food waste is a major global issue, with a significant environmental and social impact. One-third of all food produced globally is wasted, which translates to roughly 1.3 billion tons annually. We propose a mobile application that connects restaurants, grocery stores, households with food banks, shelters, individual in need to facilitate the donation of surplus food.

Proposal Description

How Our Project Will Contribute To The Growth Of The Decentralized AI Platform

The Food Waste and Donation App can contribute to the growth of AI, even though it's not directly an AI application itself: The app will collect valuable data on food surplus, donation patterns, and user behaviour. This anonymized and aggregated data can be used to train AI models for several purposes.

Our Team

Our team's main strengths perfectly align with the needs of this project. We have a strong technical foundation with developers skilled in building user-friendly mobile apps and integrating innovative features like gamification.  This expertise will ensure a smooth and engaging user experience for both donors and recipients.

View Team

The core problem we are aiming to solve

Millions of people around the world face hunger and food insecurity, despite the existence of vast amounts of surplus food that goes to waste. This disconnect occurs due to inefficiencies in the food supply chain, limited access to existing donation channels, and a lack of awareness about available resources.  These challenges contribute to a system where nutritious food is wasted while people struggle to meet their basic needs.

Our specific solution to this problem

The app will address the disconnect between wasted food and hunger by:

  • Facilitating Food Donation: The app will provide a user-friendly platform for donors (restaurants, grocery stores, households) to easily list and donate surplus food nearing expiration or that cannot be sold.
  • Matching Donors and Recipients: The app will utilize location-based services and customizable filters to connect donors with nearby recipients who can utilize the donated food. This includes food banks, shelters, and even individuals facing food insecurity.
  • Streamlining Logistics: The app can integrate features to facilitate pick-up and delivery of donated food, ensuring it reaches recipients efficiently and in good condition.
  • Promoting Awareness: The app can act as a resource center, raising awareness about food insecurity and the importance of food donation. It can also educate users on proper food storage and handling to reduce waste at home.

By implementing these features, the Food Waste and Donation App aims to:

  • Reduce food waste by diverting edible food from landfills and into the hands of those who need it.
  • Increase access to nutritious food for individuals and families facing hunger.
  • Promote a culture of food sharing and community support by connecting people with resources within their local area.

This solution offers a scalable and sustainable approach to tackling hunger and food insecurity by leveraging technology to bridge the gap between surplus food and those in need.

Competition and USPs

While other apps connect donors and recipients, ours goes a step further by incorporating gamification. A points system and engaging challenges incentivize food donation, waste reduction, and app engagement. This fosters a fun and rewarding experience for users

We don't just move food, we educate! Our app offers in-app tutorials and recipes to help users prevent food waste at home, promoting both sustainability and informed food choices.

We go beyond basic donation features. Our app tracks food donations, measures impact, and generates reports showcasing the app's effectiveness in fighting hunger and food waste. This transparency builds trust with users, donors, and potential partners.

Market Success through User Focus: We'll target social media, local partnerships, and influencers to reach our ideal user base. Engaging content will highlight our app's features, user benefits, and positive social impact.

I have a concern with the team section. The proposing team is made up of only a single unverified profile. This could breed doubts as regards confidence in team capability. I hope the proposers can address this

Hello, and let me say what a wonderful proposal.I hope I can request from you a few clarifications. Where does this App intend to launch, in which country or region, and what are the business integration plans - how will food facilities learn of it. I see only 1 team member, and cannot view information on the profile...is it possible to understand the app developer and gamification expert mentioned in the proposal.  Does this budget include building the app, the gamification, and the AI system? Are there existing AI systems that will be used, as this development will be major strides in connection. And will the app be mobile or desktop based? Which app stores are to be targeted? Thank you, your kind answers are most appreciated

Reduces the environmental impact of food waste

I am concerned that ensuring efficient logistics and coordination for pick-up and delivery of donated food may pose challenges, including coordinating schedules and transportation logistics.

However, I am optimistic that this project will reduce the environmental impact of food waste by diverting surplus food from landfills and promoting its redistribution to individuals and organizations in need, contributing to sustainability efforts. Great job !

    Promising Solution with Impactful Change

Promising and addressing an important issue with a structured approach. To ensure success, consider providing a more detailed budget breakdown, expanding the marketing budget, and detailing plans for long-term scalability and user engagement. Strengthening partnerships and outlining specific user incentives will also enhance the project's impact and sustainability.
Not sure about the team since not much was shared

    Little Alignment with SNET ethos

I understand the proposer\'s intend to solve a huge problem being food wastage. This idea could be revolutionary on all forms especially for vulnerable populations who are in dire need of food support mechanisms. However, an in-depth assessment of this proposal does not reveal any sort of connectivity with the SingularityNet AI marketplace. Another concern would be in the team section. The proposing team is made up of only a single unverified profile. This could breed doubts as regards confidence in team capability. I

connect donors with food banks and individuals

This proposal outlines a mobile app to connect donors with food banks and individuals in need, reducing food waste. Here's a breakdown of its strengths and weaknesses:

    Feasibility:

    • High: The core functionalities (user interface, location services, basic data collection) leverage existing technologies.
      • Strengths: The concept is straightforward and relies on established mobile app development tools.
      • Weaknesses: Integrating features like pick-up/delivery logistics or AI-powered data analysis might require additional resources.

    Viability:

    • Moderate: Success depends on user adoption, attracting donors and recipients, and potentially securing partnerships for logistics.
      • Strengths: The proposal addresses a significant social issue with a clear value proposition.
      • Weaknesses: The proposal lacks details on the app's monetization strategy and the cost of acquiring and retaining users.

    Desirability:

    • High: For individuals and organizations seeking to reduce food waste and help those in need, this could be desirable.
      • Strengths: The proposal offers a user-friendly way to donate and access surplus food.
      • Weaknesses: The proposal needs to address competition from existing food donation apps and highlight the unique features (gamification, education).

    Usefulness:

    • High: The project has the potential to significantly reduce food waste and improve access to nutritious food.
      • Strengths: The proposal offers a scalable solution with the potential for positive social and environmental impact.
      • Weaknesses: The proposal lacks details on how the app's effectiveness in reducing waste and hunger will be measured.

Overall, this Food Waste Donation App has a strong social purpose and is technically feasible. However, focus on:

    • Competitive Advantage: Clearly differentiating the app's features (gamification, education, impact tracking) from existing solutions.
    • Monetization Strategy: Developing a sustainable revenue model that doesn't discourage user adoption (e.g., subscriptions, premium features).
    • Logistics Partnerships: Exploring collaborations with delivery services or volunteers to facilitate food pick-up and delivery.
    • Impact Measurement: Defining clear metrics to track the app's effectiveness in reducing food waste and hunger (e.g., food donations diverted, users reached).

By addressing these considerations, this Food Waste Donation App can increase its chances of success and make a positive impact on food insecurity and sustainability.

Here are some strengths of this project:

    • Addresses a critical social and environmental issue - food waste and hunger.
    • Offers a user-friendly and accessible solution for both donors and recipients.
    • Incorporates innovative features like gamification and educational resources to promote user engagement and responsible food practices.

Here are some challenges to address:

    • Standing out from existing food donation apps and convincing users to switch.
    • Developing a sustainable business model that balances social impact with financial viability.

Meaningful idea with huge impact for SNET

    Feasibility

I am not really sure in this aspect as the team does not mention a specific area where the team will focus on. If it is a worldwide project, I believe that it could be very challenging for the team to implement the proposal as it requires many requirements and experiene from the team.

    Viability:

The proposal has not talked much about the background or the experience of the team members as well as the proposer. Moreover, in the proposer profile's, I could not find any relevant link or the profile link so that I can evaluate the capability of the team. This information should be represented clearly.

    Desirability

For the desirability, I do believe that the demands for food donation are really high. The proposal also stated that there are 1.3 billion tons of food wasted annually, which is an enormous number, therefore, if the proposal is successfully implemented, they could be able to grow and develop a lot.

    Usefulness:

Although the team is designing a really meaningful donation app which connects groups all around the world to solve a global problem, the project seems to be not really contributing to the AI growth in general or the SingularityNet at all. Therefore, I am not be able to score this aspect with a good score.

    Good projects reduce food waste

    1. Desirabilty

As we know, famine is happening globally, including developed countries, the gap between rich and poor is increasing, leading to people having too much food and others lacking food. When unused food sources in homes or supermarkets are thrown away but can still be used, it leads to food waste and environmental impact. We need to have a connection application to share that food source with those who need it.

    2.Feasibility

This project is highly feasible, when there are still many people lacking food and many people are wasting unused food. It helps connect people with surplus and food shortages more easily. I see that if this project is successful, it will solve part of the world\'s hunger.

    3. Viability

This project very good because the project topic has provided a way to connect between people who have food and people who need food and create differences in the application such as adding games and cooking recipes. However, the current team I see is only 1 person, so implementation will be a bit difficult. If possible, you have a team to carry out the project, which will be more convenient.

    4. Usefulness

The above project is very useful in avoiding food waste and reducing hunger in the world. It is humane, sharing, and human solidarity and love for each other. It will make the world a better place and people happier.
