Overview

Unlike LLMs Frontier/Foundational Biology Models are relatively more exotic creatures and do not come up with a ChatGPT interface. Although this has not captured popular imagination yet, an accelerating amount of work is in progress with a remarkable variety of building block models on the shelf that can almost take the shine off AlphaFold. The project intends to survey, document and assemble the far corners from EVO to TxGNN and create an app that exercises these models and allow a wider audience to experience them. Not only will this open up possibilities once in the hands of many, but it would also be a first step in assessing new risks posed by BIO FMs that has been lacking so far.

Proposal Description

How Our Project Will Contribute To The Growth Of The Decentralized AI Platform

This proposal aims to make Bio FMs more generally available, which supports the social good tenant of BGI as well as creating a mechanism for bringing risks and safety of these models to a wider audience - which serves the "Beneficial" in BGI.

The core problem we are aiming to solve

  1. Bio FFMs don't have their own HuggingFace, across NVIDIA, Metta, universities,
  2. No unified popular application portal
  3. Some open weights, some API accessible - varied.
  4. Hard to speak ACGG...  - needs a translation layer.
  5. Output 3D, binding energy - hard to consume
  6. No adversarial testing

Our specific solution to this problem

Survey, document and assemble all BIO FMs in one place.

Identify appropraite access mechanism - APIs, hosting, etc,

Build webapp with scalable GPU enabled containers to host and run models.

Translate user requests to what the models can understand and visualize and explain output.

Allow model pipelining and bulk testing for a general audience.

On board security/bio researchers to jailbreak models.
