Overview

The work in question aims to develop a series of online forms to facilitate the screening and diagnosis of oral health problems, particularly those related to the jaw and adjacent areas. Each step of the process is carefully designed to efficiently collect crucial information, from basic demographics down to specific symptoms, oral habits and pain history. The information collected by hese forms help healthcare professionals better understand the condition of the patient and to formulate a more accurate diagnosis, contributing to better treatment more efficient.

How Our Project Will Contribute To The Growth Of The Decentralized AI Platform

Developing advanced diagnostic algorithms, collecting and analyzing valuable data to improve AI models. The platform, which will be used in university and by healthcare professionals, will provide continuous feedback for improvements, expand the AI ecosystem through collaboration with academic institutions, serve as an educational tool for students, and demonstrate the positive impact of AI on care to the patient, encouraging trust and investment in AI technologies in the healthcare sector.

Purpose

Currently, the diagnosis of TMD depends on time-consuming clinical assessments, which can be subjective and variable between different professionals. Furthermore, the lack of an integrated digital tool to apply the DC/TMD protocol makes standardization and speed in the diagnostic process difficult, resulting in delays in treatment and inadequate management of patients' conditions.

The core problem we are aiming to solve

The central problem that my project aims to solve is the inefficiency and lack of precision in the diagnosis of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). Currently, the diagnosis of TMD depends on time-consuming clinical assessments, which can be subjective and variable between different professionals. Furthermore, the lack of an integrated digital tool to apply the DC/TMD protocol makes standardization and speed in the diagnostic process difficult, resulting in delays in treatment and inadequate management of patients' conditions. My project addresses these issues by implementing a digital platform that allows for fast, accurate and standardized diagnoses, significantly improving the quality and efficiency of care for patients with TMD.

Our specific solution to this problem

My specific solution is to develop a digital platform that implements the DC/TMD protocol in an efficient and integrated way. The platform will consist of a web page that will house five interactive questionnaires based on the DC/TMD protocol, with objective questions and images for better understanding. An algorithm will be developed to validate questionnaire responses and generate immediate diagnoses. Furthermore, the platform will have features that allow users to respond to questionnaires, view their responses, receive generated diagnoses and manage completed questionnaires. Statistical analysis tools will also be implemented to evaluate the results obtained. A server and database will be developed to support the platform's operation, providing a secure and efficient environment for storing and processing patient data.

The project aims to develop an innovative digital platform to optimize the diagnosis and management of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) using the Clinical Diagnosis for Temporomandibular Disorders (CD/TMD) protocol. This protocol, an update of the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) published in 1992, is widely used in research and clinical practice due to its systematic approach that includes standardized clinical examinations and questionnaires.

The platform will consist of a web page that will allow the efficient application of the DC/TMD diagnostic method. At the core of the platform will be five pre-defined questionnaires, based on the DC/TMD protocol, with objective questions and illustrative images to improve users' understanding. An algorithm will be implemented to validate questionnaire responses and provide immediate diagnoses, ensuring accuracy and speed in the assessment process.

The platform's landing page will introduce the project, providing detailed information about its purpose and benefits. Users will be able to answer the questionnaires, view their answers, receive automatically generated diagnoses and manage the questionnaires already answered. Furthermore, the platform will offer statistical analysis tools to evaluate the results obtained from the responses, allowing a continuous and accurate evaluation of the data collected.

The platform's technical infrastructure will include a robust server and a secure database to support its operation. Data collection and storage will be carried out in a manner that guarantees the privacy and security of patient information.

In addition to optimizing patient care time in dental outpatient clinics, the platform will serve as a practical tool for students in university outpatient environments, providing them with the opportunity to apply the DC/TMD method in a controlled environment with technological support.

Ultimately, the project aims to improve the quality of care and speed up the diagnosis of TMD, contributing to more effective management of this condition. By integrating digital technologies and standardized clinical protocols, the digital platform has the potential to transform clinical practice, offering more accurate, faster and accessible diagnoses.

We created a web plataform, and will create a model and mobile app.

Competition and USPs

We don't have ANY concorrent with a solution of this criteria diagnosis in Brazil. We found a similiar software in Germany, but is not a web app for clinical dialy usage.

      Hello Alen, I'm fine, thanks. Yeah, I'm from Brazil, is nice to meet you. In a first moment, all patient data will be saved with their awareness and they will have the power to remove the data at any time. To improve our model, we need diagnostic data, but in no way will we link this to the person, so it will not be possible to identify a person based on a diagnosis. All this information will be in the platform's usage rules, but they are not final decisions, we are open to necessary adaptations to obtain the best result, following general data protection laws.

    Viability

    This solution is viable as a professional tool, but as a general tool for everyone, a little more work may need to be considered. I do hope to see some considerations for this tool to recommend dental professionals for any case it analyses or diagnoses. This little consideration may be the simple winning streak that ensures that dental professionals adopt this solution.

    Feasibility

    I opine that the feasibility of your project still needs some more work. It is in the area of use and adoption. The numbers, the idea of critical mass adoption for your solution, are important.

    Desirability

    My experience with medical-based solutions is the bureaucracy of acceptance and adoption, in a way your solution is limited to mostly dental health professionals, I do hope there is a way this can be tweaked to serve people. The most apparent adoption curve stems from the populace to dental professionals.

    Usefulness

    I find this project to be useful even though I had expressed concern about the feasibility and viability. I'd like to see useful AI solutions integrated into one wholesome complex that serves.

     

    Summarily 

    It is very usual for great projects to have to battle grey areas of acceptability, ethics, etc. It does feel to me that this project needed a very strong ideation base to cater for all the bottlenecks of expectations and use-adoptions.

    There is no doubt about the need for AI for TMDs. I wonder, though, how this fits into possible AI for other systems or disorders. A duplication or array of AIs may be quite a battle, as professionals will need to adopt many different AIs for different solutions and may need to shuttle between multiple Apps in the bid to carry out their duties.
