Overview

This is a long term plan to develop a retreat and conference center in upstate NY for the greater Snet, DeepFunding and AIS community and make a BGI center in the US & NY. Plattsburgh, NY is a fairly low cost small City community that hosts a SUNY University. It is centrally located near three International Airports, all within 45 minutes travel: Plattsburgh, Burlington, VT and Montreal Canada. It has an Amtrak rail line station & is bracketed by two Interstates-US 89 and US 87. The proposers family owns a pristine wooded 20 Acre parcel on Woodruff Pond off of State Rt9 the NYS bike trail and would be eager to facilitate this part of NYS into an AGI/BGI world retreat conference & hotel.

Proposal Description

How Our Project Will Contribute To The Growth Of The Decentralized AI Platform

This will contribute to the growth of the AI platform and BGI in many ways. 1st, it would establish a physical center for AIS in NY, considered the financial center of the world. 2nd, it is a SUNY University City which has several major schools within in one hour travel including Vermont, Montreal & other SUNY schools. 3rd,the Conference & Hotel could be a revenue positive model that would host world gatherings of AI/AGI/BGI events on a secluded controlled property and de-stress retreat center.

Our Team

Ownership of the property and involvement in the Plattsburgh and NY area, SNET & DeepFunding.

The core problem we are aiming to solve

The virtual world & scattered global gatherings of SNET/DeepFunding lacks coheseviness and centrality. There is not a central point in the Americas for AGI. It has been demonstrated that minds amplify output and results when they gather for a concerted & focused project. Stress due to isolation and non contact with collegues is real. Contact with younger generations via Academia brings a two way benefit via energy infusion and the teaching of youth via exposure to wisdom and experience.

A central, University centric quiet place to host meetings and help minds relax and destress to futher the goals of BGI, Snet & the platform is needed. This should be someplace that is inexpensive, that is easy to travel to with a small town atmosphere yet near culture. It needs to be recreational friendly and diverse for the many different peoples that will attend including students, engineers, scientists, young, old, disabled and even robots. This is an opportunity for a long term planned home for AGI that meets these and many other success criteria.

Our specific solution to this problem

To initiate the discussion and planning of the Snet/Deepfunding/AIS Conference and Retreat Center on Woodruff Pond in Plattsburg, NY.

This Miscellaneous initial request is to find out if there is greater interest in this project within the DeepFunding community. The proposal is to reserve the property, have engineering & zoning studies completed with an Architectural Design for the Conference Center based on a committees (from Snet/DeepFunding) input on the 20 acres+/- on Woodruff Pond. The plans and budget will be presented to the community in a future DF round or RFP if there is interest in this trial proposal.

The 20 acre parcel is owned (in full disclosure) by the proposers family. It was farmed by the Woodruffs over 100 years ago and has been fallow and now thickly wooded. Most people in Plattsburg do not know of its existence since it is so wooded and secluded. The proposer is deeply involved with Snet and DeepFunding and can think of no better use for this property than a center for BGI.

The location is adjacent to Lake Champlain, just north of the Adirondacks & Whiteface Mountain, within 5 hours of NYC & Boston, & 1 from Montreal.

Project details

Over several years and DeepFunding rounds this proposal aims to develop a multi-million dollar Conference and Retreat Center for Snet/DeepFunding and AIS. This is a longterm project based on a pristine 20 acre undeveloped land parcel in a small NY City. The city has many positives including being low cost, centric to major Cities, four season recreational activities and home to a NY State University with several other nearby major Universities including those in Vermont and Montreal.

This first proposal in the Miscellaneous category is a trial baloon to see if there community support for this type of potentially revenue positive investment into physical infrastructure to support and foster BGI growth. This is a fairly low cost initial project proposal to gain an option on these pristine 20 acres on a pond by paying the real estate taxes for two years, doing engineering studies of the property and to develop a conceptual Architectural rendering based on committee input and to begin to budget actual development estimates. The land in focus is zoned commercial and Conference Center is one of the anticipated uses.

This mutli-year approach will permit exploration of potential Federal and NY State grant funding sources. These may include a current up to $200,000 NYSERDA green energy design grant and potential NYS funding to attract a cutting edge industry to its state. The proposer is a long term local business owner and has contacts with the local Chamber of Commerce, politicians and Development Authority. As a farmer the family farm grows fruit and until Covid operated a very successful NYS Winery on other owned property near the Woodruff Pond site. Headelf, the lead proposer plans on using his contacts and local knowledge to advance the cause of BGI should this initiative pass.

As SunTsu was concerned with the prime importance - first understand the ground. The proposal will need a Snet/DeepFunding committee of several persons to visit the site, learn about the region and begin to ideate on the best designs for the Woodruff Pond Conference Center. The committe would also act as an information conduit to the community so all information is not via the proposer. Some may only think of what the proposer may gain in the ultimate property ownership exchange rather than the focus of what could be accomplished for BGI. So for full transparency the proposer insists on a diverse committee of ecos members.

The importance of the US and NY, the worlds financial capital to Web 3, Defi, and BGI cannot be understated. The need for builders, coders and engineers for AGI also cannot be understated. SanFransisco and Silicon Valley is one such area. Plattsburgh NY is a much more reasonable alternative due to cost structure and University infrastructure. NYS several years ago invested millions of dollars to lure Norsk Titanium to the Plattsburgh area. A European company that possessed a disruptive 3d Titanium printing technology was brought to the Plattsburgh Airport district to print parts for areospace. The Saratoga NY area was recently incentivized to bring a chip maker to its area as has other areas in NY also been highlighted. The NY legislation has recently made positive moves in its SUNY system to encourage AI programs and degrees. It might be a perfect storm for Snet/AGI to develop a physical center in NY in a low cost easily accessable region with multiple local Universities.

Stress and burnout is and has been a concern in Cardano Catalyst, Snet Ambassadors, DeepFunding and so may other WEB3 ecos due to the mostly virtual offices we operate in. A Global time, vastly different cultures, 24 hour Zoom and Google meets mostly without visual clues and communication, Discord, Telegram, X, Base and so many other platforms intensify our isolation and stresses mental health of the participants. Will it get better?

Snet and DeepFunding have discussed and have begun in person meetings. Panama, Dubai, Spain, Istanbul meetings are an acknowledgement of our need for in person get togethers. These are intermittent, and expensive both in planning, time and capital. One low key, low expense area, owned property that could serve as a retreat, conference center, hotel and center for US BGI activities might be a key for human rejuevination and improving the platform and path of BGI. This proposal is the beginning - please vote for this experiment.

The proposer has another proposal in the RFP design pool. It is for Hackathons, initally in the SUNY school system, then expanding to other states if successfull. DeepFunding recognizes the need for builders, coders and engineers to further AGI and BGI. Where will these individuals come from, how will they be developed and more importantly - onboarded? The future of BGI rests i.m.o. with students, with academia. These individuals will need support, heros and guidance. The Hackathon is one way. The Confernce Center and Retreat center is another. A physical location where promising students, globally could be invited for an intense retreat with some of the worlds AGI leaders could revolutionize the push for BGI. Build it and they will come.

  • Total Budget

    $52,000 USD

  • Last Updated

    4 Jun 2024

Milestone 1 - Land Option contract & Committee Formation

Description

This Milestone is to gain control of the Woodruff Pond site via an option for two years based on Real Estate Taxes which are currently approximately 2500 per year. A legal contract for the option to be drawn up by local lawyer or Snets' attorney. A 3-4 member Snet/Deepfunding committee formed to act as liason and steering committee to provide transparency.

Deliverables

Two year property option with legal contract. Committee formation.

Budget

$5,800 USD

Milestone 2 - Engineering and zoning.

Description

Hiring a local land engineer on a bid basis to assess zoning and survey property. Septic analyzed via Deep Hole tests on property as needed. Electric and water engineering for scope of project. This is an estimated amount based on the proposers past experience with local land development including his farm. There are only about five qualified land engineers in Plattsburgh so it is a tight market. Other firms in Burlington or Saratoga if needed may increase bid amounts. The proposers time involved for facilitating and meeting time billed at 50/hour. Any excess money will be transferred to other Milestones if required or returned to DeepFunding.

Deliverables

A preliminary engineering sketch plan. environmental studies, SEQR, zoning findings and septic analysis results. This plan would be the basic needed to present to a Town Hearing needed for permits. As a side note, the property is zoned C(Commercial) and Conference Center is included in use.

Budget

$20,000 USD

Milestone 3 - Architectural Concept Plan.

Description

Hiring an Architect to work with the committee to develop concept plans on a design for the Conference & Retreat Center. This would be a bid item. This is a maximum amount projected.

Deliverables

A finished initial Concept plan for the project for presentation to the community.

Budget

$20,000 USD

Milestone 4 - Committee Travel & Misc expense

Description

This MS may not be in chronologic order. It is expected a committee of 3-4 would be required to visit the site to understand the ground prior to planning a design(s). Their travel would be compensated from this. The proposer would not need this since he lives in the area. The proposer would like his travel for permit errands, meetings etc compensated at .60 per mile.

Deliverables

Committee visit report oversight and comments.

Budget

$6,200 USD

This a daring approach and I would commend the proposer for thinking in this direction. However, One possible concern associated with the proposal for an SNET Conference & Retreat Center in NY is the financial feasibility and long-term sustainability of the project. While the location in Plattsburgh, NY offers several advantages such as proximity to major airports, universities, and interstate highways, establishing and maintaining a retreat and conference center requires significant investment in infrastructure, staffing, and ongoing maintenance. Additionally, generating revenue from hosting AI/AGI/BGI events and retreats may not be guaranteed, especially considering the niche nature of these gatherings and the potential competition from other conference venues. I hope the team can factor in these considerations in their execution plans. Thanks

Thank you for your comment and larger discussion. This is a trial project to explore the communities desire, especially in light of the AIS formation. Plattsburgh is a low cost community just south of the Canadian border and surprisingly has a large hotel demand due to the cross border traffic, SUNY Plattsburgh, the areas Industry and other factors. Part of the proposal in the Conference and Retreat Center is a hotel portion to develop this into a revenue positive multi-use facility. You are correct in your assessment of the risk which is one of the reasons for this exploratory approach both towards design and potential financing options. I welcome further insights, questions and analysis towards making NY a central point for SNEt/AIS and ask for the communities support..

    1 way to supplement Viability

The benefit lies not only in the product of the proposal itself, but also in what surrounds this product. For example, it creates a spreading effect about the place or it can be the start of a movement to gather people to attend similar events. I think the team should analyze more side effects like that to supplement Viability.

    A Project For the Community

I love the idea of retreats for community members. A lot of corporations fail to consider the massive impact that rest and other team-bonding activities tend to have on their workforce and this will not just do good for the community but influence workforces and communities to place premium value on the well-being of people. Kudos to the team, I hope this is voted on and implemented as I see it as such a good idea. And I hope to attend a retreat there someday :)

    Proposal oriented towards community benefits

I understand the deep meaning of this proposal is about community health - especially mental health. There is also significant connectivity planned for collaboration so that the entire community can move forward together. I really appreciate this humane meaning. I think there are not many proposals that show as much humanity and community-orientation as this proposal. I believe and hope in the feasibility of the proposal.

SNET Conference & Retreat Center In NY

The problem this proposal presents is: The virtual world and scattered global aggregations of SNET/DeepFunding lack cohesion and focus. The proposal seeks to develop a multi-million dollar Conference and Retreat Center for Snet/DeepFunding and AIS.
They should clearly share information about members. Currently, there is only 1 member in the project team.

    The conference attracted many users

I believe this proposal outlines the feasibility, desirability, and viability of establishing a retreat and conference center in upstate NY for the Snet, DeepFunding, and AIS community, alongside creating a BGI center in the US & NY. By establishing a physical center for AIS in NY, they aim to address the lack of cohesion and centralization in the current virtual world of Snet/DeepFunding gatherings. The proposed center would provide a quiet, university-centric environment for meetings, fostering collaboration, stress relief, and knowledge exchange among diverse participants. With a multi-year plan, proposer seek to develop a multi-million dollar conference and retreat center, leveraging existing resources and local connections for funding and support. This initiative aims to improve mental well-being, enhance collaboration, and provide a physical hub for the BGI community to thrive. With a transparent committee overseeing the project's development and community involvement, this proposal presents a promising step towards building a physical infrastructure to support and foster the growth of BGI.

A foundational step for a long term approach.

I like the fact that the proposer clearly establishes this to be a foundational step for a long term approach.

However, if successfully executed, the SNET Conference & Retreat Center has the potential to make a significant contribution to the SNET AI community. By establishing a physical hub for AIS in NY, this project could facilitate networking, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among members of the AI community. Moreover, hosting world gatherings of AI/AGI/BGI events and retreats could raise awareness of SingularityNET and contribute to its growth and influence in the field of artificial intelligence.

Additionally, the retreat aspect of the center could provide a valuable opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation for members of the AI community, potentially enhancing productivity and well-being. Overall, the project has the potential to create a valuable asset for the SNET AI community and advance the goals of the SNET platform.

    a long-term plan to build a conference

This proposal outlines a long-term plan to build a conference and retreat center in upstate New York for the SNET, DeepFunding, and AIS communities. Here's a breakdown of its strengths and weaknesses:

    Feasibility:

    • Low-to-Moderate: Securing funding, obtaining permits, and constructing a multi-million dollar facility is a complex undertaking.
    • Strengths: The initial phase focuses on securing the land and conducting feasibility studies, which seems feasible.
    • Weaknesses: The proposal lacks details on construction costs, funding sources, and the overall timeline for completion. Zoning regulations and permitting processes might pose challenges.

    Viability:

    • Low: Success depends on attracting enough visitors, events, and generating revenue to cover operational costs and justify the investment.
    • Strengths: The location near a university and airports might be attractive. The focus on stress reduction and community building aligns with potential needs.
    • Weaknesses: The proposal lacks a clear business model for long-term financial sustainability. Competition from existing conference centers and virtual events needs to be considered.

    Desirability:

    • Moderate: For the SNET, DeepFunding, and AIS communities, a dedicated physical space for gatherings and retreats can be desirable.
    • Strengths: The focus on stress reduction, collaboration, and fostering connections among geographically dispersed communities can be appealing.
    • Weaknesses: The appeal might be limited to a specific segment of the SNET and DeepFunding communities. Traveling to upstate New York might be inconvenient for some members.

    Usefulness:

    • Low (in proposal stage): The proposal outlines a long-term vision but lacks details on how the center would directly contribute to the growth of SNET or BGI.
    • Strengths: This project has the potential to provide a physical space for the SNET and DeepFunding communities to connect and collaborate.
    • Weaknesses: The proposal lacks details on how the center would attract top researchers, generate new ideas, or contribute to advancements in BGI.

    Additional Points:

    • Conducting a thorough feasibility study to assess market demand, competition, and financial viability is crucial before proceeding.
    • Developing a clear business model that outlines revenue streams (conferences, retreats, lodging) and operational costs is essential.
    • Engaging with the local community and SNET/DeepFunding members to gather feedback and ensure alignment with their needs is important.

Overall, the AIS Conference & Retreat Center proposal has a long way to go before becoming a reality. While the concept of a dedicated physical space for community building holds some merit, the feasibility, viability, and overall impact on BGI need careful consideration. A data-driven approach with market research, financial projections, and community engagement can help refine the proposal and assess its true potential.

Here are some strengths of this project:

    • Addresses a potential need for in-person gatherings and stress reduction within the SNET and DeepFunding communities.
    • Leverages the proposer's local connections and knowledge of the area.
    • Acknowledges the importance of fostering collaboration among geographically dispersed members.

Thank you for your deep dive and analysis. As noted this is the begining of a multiyear exploratory project to develop a home and center for BGI. Revenue positivity is at the center of this concept. The region is a very low cost NY community and the 20 acres can be reserved for the two years of the study for a very inexpensive investment. I welcome all comments ans suggestions.
