Overview

I propose a novel transformer architecture that integrates indefinite binary memory, enabling efficient and effective processing of complex data. This approach leverages the strengths of transformer models while addressing their limitations in handling sequential data. By incorporating an indefinite binary memory system, the architecture can learn and retain information more effectively, leading to improved performance in multiple areas of functionality but especially natural language processing, computer vision, and protein synthesis tasks. The proposal aims to push the boundaries of current models, demonstrating the beneficial potential for significant advancements in the field.

Proposal Description

How Our Project Will Contribute To The Growth Of The Decentralized AI Platform

Indefinite context memory in transformers can improve AI ethics and governance by:

  1. Maintaining accurate conversation history to reduce context misinterpretation, bias, and errors.

  2. Enabling safety clearer decision trails by preserving a longer chain of reasoning.

  3. Benefiting human/AI collaboration by enhancing recollection of conversation history.

Our Team

I would be good for this project because I have experience training neural nets, but mostly because I've already coded the architecture; To the point that I was training it. However, the project needs more funding to be completed.

The core problem we are aiming to solve

Transformers, introduced in the paper "Attention is all you need," (Vaswani et al., 2017) have become a cornerstone of modern AI research. However, their reliance on oldest out memory mechanisms, which discard older information to allow for new tokens, is inherently limited by the length of context memory. This constraint hinders the development of AI systems that require long-term contextual learning, such as improved natural language processing, computer vision, and protein synthesis. This process also bottlenecks AI by boxing them into more specific training data decreasing knowledge diversity.

Our specific solution to this problem

The proposed project aims to design and develop a novel transformer architecture that champions and overcomes the limitations of current attention-based transformer models by introducing a mechanism to store and retrieve indefinite contextual information. This will enable the creation of AI systems that can learn, grow, and apply knowledge over extended periods, leading to significant breakthroughs in various fields alongside human operators and collaborators.

Project details

Title: "Advancing Indefinite Binary Memory for General Intelligence: A Novel Transformer Architecture for Long-Term Contextual Learning"

Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized various fields, including natural language processing, computer vision, protein synthesis, and drug discovery. However, current transformer-based neural networks, while effective, are limited by their inability to retain contextual information for extended periods. This proposal seeks funding to develop a groundbreaking novel transformer architecture that enables indefinite binary memory, allowing tokens to be remembered indefinitely in context. This innovation has the potential to significantly enhance the performance of AI applications that rely on long-term contextual understanding. It is beneficial in ways of enhancing AI and AGI towards innovative and proactive behaviorisms, proper and compassionate caregiving with long-term memory storage, enhanced connection in ai-human alignment in terms of cohesive long-term collaboration, and having an expansive memory to multiskilling and help support repair of our global poly-crisis.

Background:

Transformers, introduced in the paper "Attention is all you need," (Vaswani et al., 2017) have become a cornerstone of modern AI research. However, their reliance on oldest out memory mechanisms, which discard older information to allow for new tokens, is inherently limited by the length of context memory. This constraint hinders the development of AI systems that require long-term contextual learning, such as improved natural language processing, computer vision, and protein synthesis. This process also bottlenecks AI by boxing them into more specific training data decreasing knowledge diversity.

Research Objectives:

The proposed project aims to design and develop a novel transformer architecture that champions and overcomes the limitations of current attention-based transformer models by introducing a mechanism to store and retrieve contextual information indefinitely. This will enable the creation of AI systems that can learn, grow, and apply knowledge over extended periods, leading to significant breakthroughs in various fields alongside human operators and collaborators.

Methodology:

The proposed architecture will employ a novel binary memory mechanism, which will store contextual information in a compact and efficient manner. This mechanism will be integrated into the transformer framework, allowing the model to retain and retrieve information for extended periods. The performance of the proposed architecture will be evaluated and compared against state-of-the-art models.

Expected Outcomes:

The successful development of the novel transformer architecture will have significant implications for various AI applications, including:

1. Improved natural language processing: Enhanced contextual understanding and long-term memory will enable more accurate language understanding and generation. This spans the needs of all AI technologies in high context communication. It is a wide-spanning boon for AI development and use.
2. Computer vision: Long-term contextual learning will improve object recognition, scene understanding, and action recognition. Which is necessity for a plethora of fields such as environmental conservation or regeneration, creative works, security, and caregiving applications, especially the more robotics is expanded with AI use.
3. Protein synthesis: The ability to retain contextual information will enable more accurate protein structure prediction and design. Which is a great need for breakthroughs in medicine, environmental conservation and regeneration, and every where else we can use nano-machines.

Timeline:

The proposed project will be completed within 8 weeks, with the following milestones:

Milestone 1: 2 weeks

Finalizing novel transformer architecture

Milestone 2: 2 weeks

Training Configuration and Implementation

Milestone 3: 2 weeks

Extra Training Implementation and Evaluation

Milestone 4: 3 week

Evaluation and Benchmarking

Expected Impact:

The successful development and deployment of the novel transformer architecture with a binary memory mechanism is expected to have a profound impact on the field of artificial intelligence, with implications extending far beyond the specific applications of natural language processing, computer vision, and protein synthesis.

Expected Impact on Future Research Directions:

1. Investigations into the theoretical foundations of memory mechanisms: The success of the proposed architecture could lead to a deeper understanding of the underlying principles of memory and learning, potentially informing novel approaches to cognitive architectures and neural network models.
2. Advancements in the development of specialized AI models: The successful application of the binary memory mechanism in transformer-based architectures could serve as a stepping stone for the development of more specialized models tailored to specific AI tasks, such as image recognition, speech recognition, or text generation.
3. Explorations into the intersection of AI and cognitive science: The integration of memory mechanisms into transformer models might inspire further research into the interplay between AI systems and human cognition, with potential breakthroughs in areas such as human-AI collaboration, AI-assisted learning, and the development of more sophisticated cognitive architectures.

Conclusion:

The proposed novel transformer architecture with a binary memory mechanism represents a significant advancement in the realm of artificial intelligence, with the potential to revolutionize the field of natural language processing, computer vision, and protein synthesis. Its successful implementation could pave the way for a deeper understanding of memory mechanisms, the development of specialized AI models, and the exploration of the intersection of AI and cognitive science, ultimately contributing to a broader and more comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationships between intelligence, cognition, and artificial intelligence.
